Bicyclist Struck And Killed By Pembroke Pines Cop in Davie

On-duty officer involved in fatal accident in Davie

A bicyclist was killed after he was struck by an on-duty Pembroke Pines officer in Davie Monday night.

The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. in the area of Stirling Road and Northwest 66th Avenue, police said.

The bicyclist, identified by Davie Police as 47-year-old Douglass Beebout, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Davie Police Captain Dale Engle said the cyclist wasn't near a crosswalk when he crossed the road, and said there was no sign the officer, later identified as Michael Pazienza, was drinking.

"I would be led to believe that he just crossed the road in front of the officer," Engle said.

One witness said he saw the officer speeding, but Davie Police say they're still investigating whether that was the case.

Police didn't say why Pazienza was in Davie.
