Two teenage boys were arrested Wednesday in the death of a man whose body was found outside a Hallandale Beach auto parts store, police said.

The suspects, ages 14 and 17, were seen attacking the man on the ground at Advanced Auto Parts at 117 N. Federal Highway, Hallandale Beach Police Chief Dwayne Flournoy said.

The man died after suffering “some significant injuries as a result of his encounter with the two juveniles," Flournoy said.

According to police, the teenagers, who are cousins, admitted that they attacked the man and said the fight was about money.

NBC 6 isn’t naming the suspects, because of their ages. The name of the slaying victim hasn’t been released.

The events began early Wednesday. About 4:30 a.m., police responded to the store after receiving 911 calls that several men were involved in a fight there.

When police arrived, the pair ran away, police said. But other officers quickly caught up to them, Flournoy said.

The officers found the man unconscious on the ground. Paramedics arrived and pronounced the man dead. They were cooperating and had their parents with them at the police station.

Jeanette Martinez, the mother of the 14-year-old boy, says she couldn’t believe the allegations.
She described her son as a quiet boy.
