Body in Garbage Bag Found in Homestead

Police investigate after woman's body discovered early Monday

Police are investigating after a woman's body was discovered stuffed into a garbage bag in Homestead Monday morning.

The discovery was made at about 3 a.m. in the area of Southwest 320th Street and Northwest 7th Avenue.

Authorities said the woman didn't die from natural causes but didn't identify her. The body is that of a black female, and foul play is suspected, police said.

Miami-Dade Police are helping Homestead Police investigate, authorities said. Miami-Dade detectives spent hours at the scene, processing a green pickup truck for fingerprints and taking away paper bags.

Next to the truck is the backyard where a family said it discovered the body wrapped in a garbage bag. A man who lives at the family's home on the corner of Southwest 320th Street and Northwest 7th Avenue told NBC 6 his green truck was stolen Sunday night and returned early Monday.

The body was found soon thereafter, but detectives said the family may have nothing to do with the crime.

“This family is a good family, and someone bad came around. It happens in the streets," said Diana Hernandez, a close friend of the family.

Police ask anyone with information on the case to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
