Business Donates School Supplies For Foster Kids

The Family Resource Center serves 550 kids in the foster system

Want to help a good cause? You can start at your co-worker’s cubicle.

Pitching in at the office worked for Jorge Saladrigas’ company, Regis HRG.

Employees at the Kendall staffing business helped fill 20 bags of school supplies for kids forced out of their homes because of abuse or neglect.

“We got some news they were around and decided to help out,” said Saladrigas, speaking of the Family Resource Center in Miami. The center serves some 550 kids in the foster system.

Without donations like theirs, FRC director Dr. Oren Wunderman said those children, mostly ages 4 to 12, would have nothing to bring to school.

“They’d feel awkward from day one,” he said.

Wunderman figures the stacks of notebooks, crayons, pencils, glue, and rulers can outfit about 70 children he serves, kids who often experience police officers and other officials bursting in their homes to take them to foster care.

“We want this experience to be as non-traumatic as possible,” he said.

The FRC takes in about 30 new children each month, so they always need school and clothing supplies. To find out how you can help, go to www.frcflorida.org.
