Carjacking Suspect in Custody: Miami Police

One suspect is in custody and authorities are searching for another after a carjacking in Miami early Friday, police said.

According to Miami Police spokesman Rene Pimentel, the victim was driving to work when he spotted a black SUV on the side of the road with its hood up.

Two men near the SUV blocked the victim in the road and were waving their arms as if they needed help, Pimentel said.

The victim stopped his car and the two suspects took him out at gunpoint, stealing all his possessions and taking his car, Pimentel said.

After the victim called police, officers spotted the stolen car in Overtown, and a pursuit began, Pimentel said.

The suspect was taken into custody after he crashed the car into a tree in the area of Northwest 2nd Avenue and 13th Street, Pimentel said. Police haven't released his identity.

Police are still looking for the second suspect, who is described as a black male between 25-30, with shaved hair on the sides and braids on top, Pimentel said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
