A Charlotte County Sheriff's deputy was fatally shot while investigating a domestic disturbance at an apartment complex.
 
The shooting occurred Monday night at the Lakes of Tuscana Apartments in Port Charlotte.
 
Officials say 42-year-old Michael Wilson joined the department in June 1992.
 
Deputies, with assistance from the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office SWAT team, entered an apartment and found the suspect in the shooting dead.
 
An investigation continued through the night. No further details were available early Tuesday.
