Cleanup Continues at Tampa Port After Derailment

Officials continued cleaning up after a Tampa train derailed early Thursday.

Officials say thunderstorms hampered efforts to upright the CSX train cars that derailed at the Port of Tampa.

Tampa Fire Rescue says the process should take "well into" Friday. The 88-car train was delivering ethanol to the port when 14 cars derailed early Thursday, spilling the fuel onto the ground. The spill was completed on Thursday.

Capt. Lonnie Benniefield told The Tampa Tribune that 14 of the cars left the rails and three toppled. Workers had to take a break Thursday night when lightning and heavy rain pushed through the region.

Officials are still trying to determine what caused the train to derail.
