Coast Guard Offloads 3,000 Pounds of Seized Drugs in Key West

Marijuana, cocaine seized in two separate operations: Coast Guard

Over 3,000 pounds of seized drugs were offloaded by the Coast Guard in Key West Tuesday, officials said.

Some 2,300 pounds of marijuana and 886 pounds of cocaine were seized in two separate operations last month, according to the Coast Guard.

In the first incident, a Tactical Law Enforcement Team from Opa Locka was patrolling aboard the USS Carr when they boarded a 160-Bolivian-flagged freighter northeast of Panama on Oct. 14 and found the cocaine.

Then, on Oct. 26, The Coast Guard Cutter Gallatin, based in Charleston, S.C., stopped a 30-foot go-fast vessel in the Caribbean Sea. A search of the boat turned up the massive load of marijuana.

The drugs were turned over to federal authorities.
