Coral Gables Courthouse to Remain Closed Wednesday

Officials still investigating mysterious illnesses

The Coral Gables courthouse will remain closed Wednesday as the health department continues to investigate a mysterious illness that affected several employees last week.

Seven workers were taken to the hospital last Thursday and over 30 others evacuated from the building at 3100 Ponce De Leon Boulevard after they became ill.

The courthouse had been fumigated for termites earlier in the month, but no traces of the fumigant were found, officials said.

The health department has spent the past week trying to determine what caused the illnesses.

All scheduled court hearings for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were canceled and would be rescheduled for a later date. It was unknown whether the building would be open Thursday.
