Deadline Looms for Property Tax Appraisal Appeal

Monday is the last day for condo and homeowners to save some big cash

Time is running out. Monday is the last day  for condo and homeowners to save some big cash.

It’s the last day to get a property appraisal that's lowered, which then lowers the taxes because the value is less. Jose Cabrera saved $1,800.

“I sent in the application, paid the $20 fee and within a week I got a check for it,” Cabrera said.

Cabrera is busy on the job now and keeping more of his hard earned dollars in his wallet. He has filed an appeal on his property taxes before and got an nice refund.

Barry Sharpe of the PTAG, a property tax appeal group, got money back for Cabrera and Jorge Fernandez.

Sharpe got pictures of the driveway, air conditioning, and the roof at Fernandez’s in Hialeah and used it to get his value lowered about $50,000.

“They took pictures all over my house. They took a picture of what's good, whats not good. You know something broken and he check out everything in the house,” Fernandez said.

The deadline is Sept. 19t in Dade and Broward. It’s very important homeowners filed prior to that date, otherwise they don't have the right to appeal.

Sharpe said there is nothing to lose and homeowners may end up with a little extra cash.
It costs $15 to $20 depending on if you hire a private company like Sharpe’s or do it yourself.

Monday at midnight is the deadline.
