Car was trying to make U-turn when it got stuck on tracks and struck by Tri Rail train: BSO

A driver is facing a DUI charge after their car was struck by a Tri Rail train in West Park Monday morning, authorities said.

The incident happened just after 5:30 a.m. when the silver Jeep that had three people inside tried to make a U-turn at the train tracks at 3031 W. Hallandale Beach Boulevard, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

The Jeep got stuck and was struck by the train, which was heading southbound, the BSO said. The three occupants of the car were able to get out before the train struck and weren't injured, the BSO said.

About 100 people were on the train though none were injured, the BSO said.

The occupants of the Jeep had just left Scarlett's Cabaret in Hallandale Beach, the BSO said. The driver, who wasn't identified, will be charged with DUI.

The incident caused Hallandale Beach Boulevard to be closed from Park Road to I-95 early Monday.
