Driver Hospitalized After Rollover Crash on 826

Car catches fire, truck rolls over in 826 crash

A rollover crash on State Road 826 in Northwest Miami-Dade sent one person to the hospital and caused a car to catch on fire early Saturday.

The accident happened on the southbound lanes of the 826 just south of Northwest 74th Street, according to Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Joe Sanchez.

Sanchez said a Volkswagen Jetta rear-ended a pickup truck, causing the truck to flip over and the Jetta to catch fire.

The driver of the truck was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital in critical but stable condition, Sanchez said.

The driver of the Jetta wasn't injured, though the car was engulfed in flames and fire rescue crews responded to extinguish the fire.

Neither driver was identified.

Sanchez said they're investigating the cause of the crash and said it was a busy night for accidents on Miami-Dade roadways.

"We realize that a lot of people are celebrating these holiday, Christmas parties, we're asking people to not drink and drive, wear their seat belt and just be very alert," Sanchez said.
