Elderly Fake Doc Who Gave Free Breast Exams Gets 13 Months Behind Bars

81-year-old accused of assaulting two women enters plea deal

The elderly Coconut Creek man who posed as a doctor and offered free door-to-door breast exams will spend 13 months behind bars, it was announced at a plea hearing Friday.

Philip Winikoff, 81, will also be on probation for 15 years after his release from prison, under the terms of the plea deal reached with prosecutors earlier this week.

"I know I did wrong and this was the first time I ever was in trouble in my 81 years," Winikoff said at Friday's hearing. "Until this time, I didn't know what the inside of a courtroom looked like."

Winikoff had been accused of offering the exams at a Lauderdale Lakes apartment complex in April 2006. Prosecutors said two women fell for the ruse and were assaulted before Winikoff was caught.

"I'm very sorry for what I did to the victims and to my family, I know my family stuck with me," he said. "My wife...was with me the whole time."

If tried and convicted, Winikoff could have been sentenced to more than 45 years for sexual battery and 10 years for practicing medicine without a license.
