Faculty Question Gov. Rick Scott's Motive for Posting Salaries Online

Florida's faculty leaders question why the governor posted salaries of state university employees online.

Faculty leaders are questioning Florida Gov. Rick Scott's motive for posting salaries of state university employees on a website.

They noted Wednesday that he did it while also doubting the value of liberal arts degrees and floating ideas about radical changes in tenure.

A spokesman for Scott said it's just part of the governor's commitment to open government.

United Faculty of Florida president Tom Auxter, though, said its part of a pattern of "attacking the faculty step by step."

Auxter said the spreadsheet showing salaries ranging from about $30,000 to $1.4 million is misleading.

He said that's because it lacks details and context.  Scott calls his website Florida has a Right to Know .

It also includes state employee salaries and pension data as well as budget information.
