The northbound lanes of I-95 were closed at Stirling Road in Broward County early Wednesday after a pedestrian was struck and killed in the area, authorities said.
The crash happened around 4 a.m. and had traffic backed up to Hallandale Beach Boulevard, Florida Highway Patrol officials said.

Officials identified the man as 56-year-old Lawrence Schopler, of Hollywood. It's unclear why he tried to walk across the highway. All three drivers who hit him stayed on the scene.
"We know that there was a single vehicle crash that occurred where a vehicle hit the median wall and then subsequently, we know that a male attempted to cross the northbound lanes of I-95 and was subsequently struck by three vehicles," said Florida Highway Patrol spokesman Mark Wysocky.

"All our investigators have interviewed them, and they believe it was probably dark. It was obviously dark at 4 o'clock in the morning. We're trying to determine if any of the street lights were working at the time," Wysocky said.
The five-hour closure and cleanup of the road caused some drivers to miss their flights out of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport.
"I planned to be here on time and everything. There were no signs indicating that the road was closed, and I was in a two-hour jam on the highway," said Hasiel Gonzalez.
