Fort Lauderdale and Miami Under Flood Warning

The heaviest rains on Monday were expected in the morning

Torrential rains left local road, homes, and businesses flooded in Broward and Miami-Dade counties on Monday, and more showers may develop during the afternoon.

More than six inches of rain was reported in Oakland Park between 7 a.m. Sunday and 7 a.m. Monday by South Florida Water Management District, most of it falling after midnight.  Over five inches of rain was reported in Lauderdale Lakes and Fort Lauderdale.

Flood Warning were repeatedly extended in Fort Lauderdale and the Miami area, including Miami Beach, Coral Gables, Key Biscayne, Kendall, Pinecrest and Cutler Bay.  Flood Warnings are issued by the National Weather Service where significant flooding takes place.  A Flood Watch had been in effect until 8 p.m. for the rest of Broward and Miami-Dade due to the potential for flooding should showers redevelop.

Though showers faded by sunrise, lingering water continued to cause problems. The heaviest rain of the day was expected in the morning, but additional showers may form during the day.  Widespread rain is not forecasted for Trick-Or-Treating, but a few areas of rain are possible.

According to the National Weather Service, a total of 12.15 inches of rain fell on Fort Lauderdale Beach from Friday to Monday. Miami Beach got 11.70 and Coconut Grove got 10.72 fro the same period.
