Good Samaritan Finds 5-Year-Old Child Who Walked Away From School

The boy's mother was called using a cell phone in the boy's pocket.

The 5-year-old boy who walked away from his Miami Gardens school was found in the area and returned to his mother, authorities said.

Miami Gardens Police said the child was missing in the area of 7th Avenue and 183rd Street. The Good Samaritan who found him used a cell phone in the boy’s pocket to call his mother.

The school, Norland Seventh Adventist Child Development Center, was cited for violations for not calling the police, Miami Gardens Police said.

The center said they did not report the incident because their license was expired.

A mother picking up her kids at the school said this was the first time she has never had a problem with the school.

“I’ve had three kids here and I have never heard of that,” she said. “I hope the child is OK.”
