Heavy Rain Brings Flooding to the Treasure Coast

The Boynton Beach area received 17.72 inches of rain on Thursday.

A late afternoon rainstorm left widespread flooding from Delray Beach to Fort Pierce.

The National Weather Service says the Boynton Beach area received 17.72 inches of rain on Thursday. Other areas up and down the coast also experienced flooding.

The Palm Beach County Emergency Management Office reports a portion of Interstate 95, between mm 56 and 60, is closed due to flooding.

Schools were closed in St. Lucie and Palm Beach counties due to the flooding. Officials say up to nine inches of rain fell in Fort Pierce.

Martin County Fire Rescue officials say a possible tornado in Hobe Sound damaged 30 homes. No injuries were reported, but officials say there were multiple downed power lines.

More rain is expected Friday before the weather clears for the weekend.
