A South Florida school was temporarily placed on lockdown Friday as police investigated a burglary at a nearby home, authorities said.
Hialeah Elementary School at 550 East 8th Street was placed on lockdown after an officer saw several suspects attempting to burglarize a house, Hialeah Police officials said.

Some of the suspects were taken into custody but others fled the scene, with one of them running in the area of the school, officials said.
A perimeter was set up in the area of East 8th Avenue and 5th Street.
