Owner suspects arson after warehouse goes up in flames.
Authorities are investigating a fire that swept through a Hialeah warehouse early Thursday.
The blaze broke out around 3:40 a.m. on East 10th Lane just north of 47th street.
The structure, which is over 1,000 square feet, stored car engines, compressors, and even a mid-1900s era plane fuselage that burned.
No one was inside at the time.
"The fire was burned through the roof in many areas and the amount of fire area was very large," Hialeah Fire District Chief Stephen LaRue said. "We opted to strictly stick with an outside defensive attack and not go inside the structure and endanger anybody's lives."
Warehouse owner Ed Hall, a retired Eastern Airlines captain, said he suspects arson.
"Nothing you can do about it," Hall said.
Hall's T-28B fighter plane, which he flew as a Marine in the Korean War, was also in the warehouse and sustained damage.
Employee Jorge Loaiza said he arrived around 7 a.m., and didn't know about the fire. He said he saw the door open and thought it was a robbery.
The state fire marshal is helping investigate the cause of the blaze.
