Jimmy Buffett Rocks Out in Key West

"I heard I was in town," Buffett said as he walked onstage Friday, referencing one of his well-known song titles.

Jimmy Buffet surprised about 3,500 "Parrot Head" fans with a concert on Friday during their 20th annual convention in Key West, according to the Florida Keys News Bureau.

Buffet, whose most popular songs include, "It's Five O'Clock Somewhere" with Alan Jackson and "Margaritaville," performed with his Coral Reefer Band for more than an hour from a stage near his Margaritaville Store and Cafe on Duval Street.

"I heard I was in town," the former Key West resident said as he walked onstage Friday, referencing one of his well-known song titles. "This is pretty cool, playing on Duval Street."

He then played 15 songs such as "A Pirate Looks at Forty," "Tin Cup Chalice," Nautical Wheelers," and "Woman Goin' Crazy on Caroline Street," the Florida Keys News Bureau reported.

Every year, Parrot Head fans go to Key West to see the island portrayed in their hero's lyrics. Many attendees sang along while Buffet performed and donned tropical headgear that gave them the name, "Parrot Heads."

This year's convention will continue with activities such as another concert by the Coral Reefer Band, beachside performances, a charity auction and a "Beach Bash" beside the Atlantic Ocean, according to the Florida Keys News Bureau.

Since 2002, members of the more than 200 national and international Parrot Head chapters have given $22.1 million and almost 2.7 million volunteer hours to local and national charities, the Florida Keys News Bureau reported. The convention continues through Sunday.
