Cops Seek Wilton Manors Hustlers

Two men are conning their way into short relationship to steal their victims' things, Wilton Manors police say

Police say two hustlers have been preying on the residents of an apartment tower in Wilton Manors.

Jose Rivera, 25, and Dwight Benson, 27, are being sought by Wilton Manors police, who say the pair are burgling men in the Wilton Tower by conning their way into short relationships under fake names.

Those relationships, authorities say, are contrived to gain access to their victims' belongings.

"Some of my neighbors have been victimized by them," said Daniel Lyton, who said his neighbor across the hall fell prey.

"The first thing that comes across is 'Can I use your bathroom?' The second thing that comes across is a sexual advance."

Rivera and Benson have been arrested multiple times for stealing items from wallets to cars, police said.

"My friend said that he stole his wallet and also his jewelry," Lyton said. "So I was very upset when that happened, and that was two weeks ago."

At neighborhood bar Matty's, many said they had already heard about the duo.

"No matter where you live, you've got to be careful," said Jason Altman. "Unfortunately, a lot of guys here are very friendly, very open."

Wilton Manors Police are asking anyone who spots the suspects to call 954-828-5700, extension 4.
