Suspect ID'd In Randi Gorenberg Murder

Confidential informant says Miami-Dade fugitive Michel Berrera may have been a hit man in the slaying of the Boca Raton mother of two

Four years after mother of two Randi Gorenberg was last seen at the Boca Raton Town Center, abducted, and shot twice in the head, there is finally a break in the long-unsolved murder case.

Police are searching for fugitive Michael Berrera, a suspected gang affiliate who was raised in Miami-Dade and is wanted for armed bank robbery and attempted murder of law enforcement, among other charges.

A confidential informant tipped off the Palm Beach Sherrif's Office to Berrera's alleged involvement in the March 2007 killing after overhearing members of the Salvadoran gang MS13 discussing the murder, suggesting a hit man believed to be Berrera had assisted the gang.

Gorenberg's body was found in Lawton Chiles Memorial Park in Delray Beach; police believe she was shot while sitting in the passenger seat of her own car, her body pushed from the vehicle.

New surveillance video released from a nearby Home Depot parking lot in which Gorenberg's SUV was found abandoned show a silver Chrysler 300 trailing her Mercedes SUV. Records confirm Berrera's family owned a silver Chrysler 300 at the time.

It is not known why Gorenberg may have been targeted by gang members, but for her mother Idey Elias, the news brings the promise of some amount of closure.

"Just tell me why you shot my daughter in the head twice," she said. "What happened?"

Police believe Berrera may be traveling back and forth between South Florida and Mexico under an assumed named. The story will air Saturday night at 9 p.m. on the television show "America's Most Wanted" in an effort to generate leads to his whereabouts.
