A 21-year-old man was arrested after he tried to rob a Plantation Little Caesar's Pizza restaurant at gunpoint Monday night, police said.

Akeem Mickles is facing charges of robbery with a firearm, burglary and resisting arrest without violence after he tried to rob the pizzeria at 5201 W. Broward Boulevard, Plantation Police said.

Mickles was being held without bond Tuesday and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.

Police say Mickles pointed a gun at employees and demanded money and fled the restaurant before officers arrived. He was later found hiding behind an air conditioning unit in a nearby neighborhood backyard, police said.

The firearm, which had been reported stolen out of Fort Lauderdale, was also recovered, police said.
