Man Arrested for Attempted Murder of Teen Girlfriend's Father

Man beat girlfriend, stabbed her father during frightening home invasion: Davie Police

A Davie man is facing battery and attempted murder charges after he beat his teen girlfriend and stabbed her father during an armed home invasion, police said Tuesday.

Felix Matthew Pena, 20, was arrested Sunday following the terrifying encounter at a home in the 700 block of Cumberland Terrace, Davie Police said.

Pena and the 16-year-old girl had been dating for about five months when she ended the relationship on May 12 because Pena was becoming verbally abusive towards her, according to an arrest report.

According to the report, Pena picked the girl up from work that day to discuss their relationship but the two quickly got into an argument.

During the argument, Pena slapped the teen in the face, knocking her glasses off, the report said. He drove them to a pool area near her home, where he pushed her in the chest several times, knocking her to the ground the got on top of her and choked her "two to three times against her will impeding her normal airflow," the report said,

The teen was crying and gasping for air each time she was choked, the report said.

On Saturday, Pena drove to a Publix where he bought two large knives and a roll of duct tape, before he drove to the teen's house, the report said.

Pena parked nearby and started researching on his cell phone how to break into a house, then spent nine hours walking around the residence and peeking into windows, the report said.

According to the report, Pena grabbed a cinder block and threw it through a rear sliding door, shattering it. Pena made his way to the teen's father's room, where the father, who has Polio, was laying in bed, the report said.

As the father sat up and lifted his arms to defend himself, Pena stabbed him in the shoulder with one of the knives, the report said.

Pena's girlfriend heard her father screaming, and ran to the bedroom. She was forced onto the bed by Pena, who stood over the teen and her father holding a knife and telling them he was going to kill them both, the report said.

"If I can't have [her], no one can," Pena said, according to the report.

The girl was able to convince Pena that they would get back together, and he started to leave. The father called police, and officers responded and took Pena into custody as he was walking to his car, the report said.

Pena was charged with attempted premeditated murder, domestic battery by strangulation, armed burglary and false imprisonment. He was being held without bond Tuesday and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.

The father suffered a large cut to his shoulder which required 16 stitches.
