A 56-year-old man was arrested after he stabbed another man to death in Fort Lauderdale on New Year's Day, police said.
Lloyd Scott is facing charges of premeditated murder, resisting an officer without violence, domestic battery by strangulation, battery/domestic violence following his arrest on Wednesday.
He was being held without bond Friday and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.
According to a Fort Lauderdale Police report, Scott had been involved in a domestic conflict with his estranged girlfriend and had slashed the tires on her car and broke her windshield Wednesday in the 1700 block of Northwest 16th Street.
He fled the scene before police arrived but made several phone calls to the woman, threatening her with physical violence, police said.
Scott returned to the home hours later and confronted the woman and two men, including the stabbing victim, 41-year-old Norman Cameron, police said.
Scott put Cameron in a head lock and the woman ran to call police, the report said. Scott, who was armed with a knife, told the other man "Don't worry, I am not here for you," and the man ran from the scene, the report said.
When officers arrived they found Cameron with several knife wounds. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Police set up a perimeter and K-9 officers tracked Scott to a nearby residence, where he was taken into custody, police said.
The murder weapon, which was buried at the scene, was later found with the help of a human remains detection K-9, police said.
