Second-degree murder charge in Miami Beach apartment shooting

A Miami man is facing a murder charge after police say he shot another man inside a Miami Beach apartment Saturday.

Braulio Hilario Perez, 48, is charged with second-degree murder in the shooting that happened at the apartment in the 1300 block of Euclid Avenue, according to a Miami Beach Police arrest affidavit released Monday.

According to the affidavit, Perez was accompanying a friend, identified as Jose Febles, to the apartment where Febles had been staying but had recently been asked to move out.

Febles entered the apartment and asked a witness, identified as John Morales, if he could remove some of his belongings and if Perez could come inside, the affidavit said.

When Morales refused to let Perez inside, Perez forced his way in armed with a firearm and struck Morales to the ground, the affidavit said. Morales was able to get up and escape out a rear kitchen door as Perez briefly pursued him, the affidavit said.

Perez returned to the apartment where he and Febles began to struggle over the firearm. Perez was able to push Febles away from him and opened fire, hitting Febles in the head.

Febles, who was in his 50s, was pronounced dead at the scene. Perez fled the scene but was arrested a few blocks away on Alton Road.

Witnesses, including Morales, were able to identify Perez, the affidavit said. Perez was being held without bond and it was unknown whether he has an attorney.
