Police are investigating after a man was shot and killed outside his home in northwest Miami-Dade early Wednesday morning.
The shooting happened just before 2 a.m. in the area of Northwest 96th Street and 6th Avenue as the victim was returning home from work, police said.
Police said it appears the man had gotten out of his truck to open the gate to his home when someone approached him and shot him multiple times, police said.
"There was some sort of confrontation, he was shot and murdered out here in the street right in front of his home," Miami-Dade Police spokesman Det. Roy Rutland said.
At least seven bullet casings were found nearby, police said. The victim, who wasn't identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members of the victim heard the gunfire and saw a dark colored vehicle fleeing eastbound on Northwest 96th Street, police said.
Ana Aragon, an assistant manager at a nearby gas station, said the victim stopped by to purchase beer minutes before the shooting.
The motive for the shooting is being investigated and it's possible it was a robbery, police said. At least one gunman is being sought.
"We're confident somebody knows who did this," Rutland said. "People talk."
