A driver was being held on $26,000 bond Tuesday after police said they arrested her for striking two men in a hit-and-run in Miami Monday.
Miami-Dade Thomas Petersen ordered Johanna Cabrera, 31, held on $25,000 bond on the charges of leaving the scene of a crash causing injury and driving with a suspended license. She also faces $500 bond for each of two other driving-related warrant charges, online jail records showed.
Ismael Martinez, 48, and Fidel Duarte were struck Monday morning as they were both by the side of the road next to their work truck at 701 Southwest 64th Avenue, Miami Police said.
As they were both getting ready to work, a tan-colored Ford Explorer hit both of them and their truck but continued driving away towards West Flagler Street, according to police.
Police initially said that Martinez lost his leg, but later on Monday his wife, Melida Arruliga, said she was hoping doctors could save the limb.
Martinez remained in critical condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital Tuesday.
His family and close friends are doing their best to deal with the difficult circumstances.
Martinez's friend Eddie Lara said he would have another surgery Wednesday, but if he doesn't know if doctors will have to amputate Martinez's leg.
Duarte sustained minor injuries.
It was not immediately known whether Cabrera (below) has an attorney. She is due to make another court appearance Wednesday morning.
Footage from the scene showed a puddle of blood next to a work truck and officers collecting evidence.
Police said they're looking for a tan-colored Ford Explorer with a broken right brake light that is missing part of the left mirror.
