Police are looking for a pair of suspects who shot and killed a man in his front yard in northwest Miami-Dade Tuesday.
Roberto Gonzalez, 61, was washing his car in front of his home at 2382 Northwest 82nd Street when he was approached and shot by two men around 4:55 p.m., Miami-Dade Police said.
Gonzalez was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he later died.
The suspects, who may be juveniles, fled the scene in a newer model grey Chevy Impala, police said. Robbery is believed to be the motive in the shooting.
Hours earlier, a man was gunned down in a robbery on Northwest 44th Street in Miami. Marcus Smith, 58, was shot several times outside a home around 2 p.m., police said.
Police are looking for two suspects in that shooting as well, and on Wednesday Smith's loved ones pleaded with anyone who might have information about his killing to come forward. On Tuesday he had gone to his mother-in-law's house at 549 NW 44th St. to oversee workers installing new windows.
"He was going to help, to help out, that's the kind of guy that my father was," Chris Smith said. "He was loving, he was always willing to go out of his way."
Marcus Smith was doing just that, when Miami Police say two men accosted him on the sidewalk, opened fire several times and stole his jewelry before running away.
"People have no respect for life, that's definitely for sure, life is very, very fragile," his widow Carla Smith said.
"Sometimes you can just be in the wrong place at the wrong time," she added. "And it's just a matter of circumstance and it could happen to anybody."
She said the family is devastated.

Marcus Smith served 29 years in the Miami-Dade Corrections Department, and he retired four years ago as a chief.
"This man gave 30 years, it's a long time, 30 years for someone to give this community hard, dedicated service," Miami Police Det. Ezra Washington said.
Now the family is hoping the community will give back.
"Please, please come forward if you know any details that could help us find these guys," Chris Smith said.
