Man and Woman Busted for West Miami Break-Ins

Pair caught breaking into businesses in West Miami

A man and woman are in custody Wednesday after police say they burglarized businesses in West Miami.

West Miami Police say the arrests happened after officers spotted a suspicious car with no lights in the area of Southwest 67th Avenue and 21st Street around 5 a.m.

When the officers investigated, they discovered the male suspect in the process of a robbery.

Police said three businesses, including a pharmacy, an income tax office and a cleaners, were robbed. The burglars kicked in drywall to access them, causing extensive damage, police said.

"They had apparently broken into the first store, which is a laundry, and then made their way to the wall, for a total of five openings through the walls,” West Miami Police Captain Nelson Andrieu said.

The man and woman, who weren't identified, were taken into custody without incident, police said, and were found to have a stack of lottery tickets and cash on them.

"Right by the door, they had numerous lottery tickets, scratch-off tickets, as well as several other items they had taken from the store,” Captain Andrieu said.

Those items are believed to have come from the SAR Pharmacy owned by Eddy Alonso, who learned about the robbery from police shortly after it was broken up. In more ways than one, Alonso said the burglary could not have come at a worse time.‬

“We have a family to feed,” Alonso said. “We’re not doing a lot of business, ok? So, a break-in like this is going to cost me money, and basically, the money I might not have.”‬

‪Alonso said he was angered by the lack of respect he believes two alleged thieves showed him, and his neighbors.‬

‪“I feel this is outrageous, man, these people you know? They don’t know how much it takes to build a business,” the pharmacy owner said.‬

Police said they're investigating to determine whether the robberies were tied to a string of similar break-ins in the Miami-Dade area.
