Two in critical condition after shooting in Overtown

A man and a pregnant woman were in critical condition after they were shot outside an Overtown market Sunday night, Miami Police and witnesses said.

The shooting happened around 7:45 p.m. in the 1700 block of Northwest 2nd Court.

According to police, the victims, a woman in her early 20s and a man in his late teens, were standing outside the 17th Street Meat Market when they were shot several times by an unknown gunman.

Antar Jamhour, the manager of the market, said he knew the woman, who was pregnant and about 20 days away from giving birth to a baby girl.

"She was here inside the store, hanging out with her baby daddy," Jamhour said. "She came asking for something, but the moment she left, there was shooting outside. And I think she was in the middle."

The shooter or shooters fled the scene, and police don't know if the shooting was random or the victims were targeted.

"We did get information that there was a vehicle that left speeding from here but we don't know if that car was involved," Miami Police spokeswoman Kenia Reyes said.

The victims were taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in extremely critical condition, Reyes said.
