Senator Marco Rubio campaigned with Republican Senate candidate Connie Mack throughout Florida Monday, with their first stop at Versailles Restaurant in Miami.

The pair, who was at the Little Havana eatery at 10 a.m., participated in a Miami ritual: drinking Cuban coffee. They'll also make stops in the Villages and Tampa.

Mack is going up against Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson, who held a sizeable lead over Mack in a NBC News/Wall Street Journal/Marist Poll last month.

“Another reason for Connie Mack, we need another majority leader in the U.S. Senate, not just the majority,” Rubio said to the crowd of about 60 people who had gathered.

Meanwhile, Mack said he wants to see Rubio rise to a position of power in the Senate.

“We want to make sure that Marco has a gavel in the next Senate,” Mack said.

“Barack Obama and Senator Nelson have chosen to nationalize our health care system. They want to nationalize our banks and they want to nationalize our automobile industry. That’s not America, is it?”

“We will bring freedom back to the U.S. government,” Mack said. “If you are not a friend of the Unites States, you will not get a dime from United States.”
