Marlins closer Leo Nunez gave up two runs in the ninth inning, allowing the Mets to beat the Marlins Friday night.
After two years of dashing the New York Mets playoff hopes during the last week of the seasons, the Florida Marlins watched their playoff hopes crumble with a late-inning rally against the Mets Friday night.
The Marlins, who entered the ninth inning up 5-4, ended up losing 5-6 after closer Leo Nunez allowed three hits and a walk.
Florida fell five games behind the NL wild card-leading Rockies, who beat St. Louis 2-1 at Coors Field.
There are eight games left in the season.
"The hill gets a little steeper but we have a team that is resilient," manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "We are in a situation that we have to win every game and get help."
