The city of Miami Beach may temporarily stop the demolitions of historic homes after a recommendation from the city commissioners, The Miami Herald reported.
City authorities recommended that the Planning Board put a temporary moratorium to stop demolitions for the applications filed after July 17, the report said.
The moratorium would not include properties bought during the last three months nor would it include the ones that have already filed applications for demolition, the report said.
The moratorium, which was proposed Wednesday, would only go into effect if the Planning Board approves it.
The proposal for the moratorium was made by Mayor Matti Herrera Bower and it would be in place until November, the report said.
Over the last few months, Miami Beach has been reviewing the controversial application to demolish the mansion 42 Star Island, owned by Leonard Hochstein and his wife, Real Housewives of Miami cast member Lisa Hochstein.
Miami Beach Design Review Board approved the plans to build a new mansion on 42 Star Island Drive but preservationists continue to argue that the 88-year-old home should be saved not razed.
