"You can be a phenomenal dancer, but if you don't shake off those nerves and show the judges your personality and how good you can perform, then there's no mashing of everything," said program leader Natalia Gonzalez.

She said the team, which will pick 20 to 25 new dancers, has grown in popularity.

"Every year the standards get a little bit higher, especially after winning back to back championships and going for a third one," Gonzalez said.

Some first-timers were nervous at the turnout.

"I'm kind of freaked out. I just got here and there are so many girls," said Janeice Hanner. "I'm worried about my nerves right now, it's very intimidating."

For dancer Lindsey Heinemann, it's all about remembering the moves and being yourself.

"The toughest part is remembering all the choreography and absorbing everything," she said. "It comes down to how fast you can pick up and show your personality."
