Miami Man Robbed While He Visited Sick Mother in Hospital

Edgar Valle has lost his job, his house is in foreclosure, and he was robbed while visiting his mother in the hospital

Edgar Valle has fallen on hard times, after losing his job and seeing his Liberty City home fall into foreclosure, but what happened just before Christmas is unconscionable.

"It's something I don't believe happened to me, I still don't believe it," Valle told NBC 6 South Florida Tuesday.

Valle says that while he was tending to his ailing mother in the hospital just before Christmas, someone broke into his home.

"They took all the clothes down and everything and grabbed the cash that I have," he said. Valle said it was about $4,000 he was saving to move and get immigration papers for his 17-year-old daughter to continue her education.

Valle came to the United States with his family from Nicaragua, but he says his American Dream has turned into a nightmare. Aside from the money, the thieves stole his daughter's laptop and gifts from under the tree.

All this right before the holidays and while his mother continues to battle for her life in the hospital.

"She's fighting for her life and I try to encourage my daughter, 'Merry Christmas, don't get too depressed,' but the situation turned worse," Valle said. "They just rob her and grabbed her future."
