Joseph Zambrano and his family were among the vendors gearing up for a night of celebration and big sales at Bayfront Park Monday. The iconic sign that rises there has a new name, "La Gran Naranja." One mother who only gave her first name, Maria, said she's been calling the sign that for as long as she can remember.

Miamians will be ringing in the New Year with the Big Orange once again at Bayfront Park Monday, but this year the iconic sign will have a new name.

The famous sign that rises 400 feet up the Intercontinental Hotel every New Year's is being renamed "La Gran Naranja" as part of a Spanish heritage celebration.

Festivities will take place at Bayfront Park beginning at 8 p.m. and are free to the public. The fireworks display will kick off at midnight.

Joseph Zambrano and his family were among the vendors gearing up for a night of celebration and big sales at the park. He plugged his arepas, made from sweet corn and mozzarella cheese.

“Many people see it, they don't know what it is and they get curious about it, and then they try it. At the end they like it and they get more," he said.

Zambrano said he and his family would welcome the new year even as they're working the grill.

"And when that clock hits 12 and it’s a new year, we’re hugging each other, we’re celebrating a new year in a good way with people around, with a fireworks show," he said. "It's really good."

Miami is one of the top New Year's celebration sites in the world, making USA Today and Hotwire's top 10 New Year's party destination lists.
