For a long time, Miramar resident George Bettinger's claim to fame was being the voice of the red M&M on a commercial.

But now he's the voice of a popular family radio show that broadcasts worldwide on the Internet. George, his wife Lizette, and their 8-year-old son Charlie are on the air live for 90 minutes a day, 6 days a week.

On any given show, Bettinger will play several different characters such as The Three Stooges, Scooby-Doo, Jackie Mason, and Rain Man.

"I've been doing stand up and comedy and everything for 30 years," said George, "so it's kind of like it's part of me. It's just me coming out."

The Bettingers' radio show is called The Mom and Pop Shop. It's broadcast from the family's own home, where they gather inside a small office.

And they all do the voices of different characters. Charlie likes to play Harry Potter, and Lizette's known for being "Schmoopy," a take-off of Jersey Shore's Snooki.

The Mom and Pop Shop airs on HOTMIX106.com, and while they don't have a way to measure listeners, their Facebook fan page gets hundreds of comments per day and has more than 1,300 members from all over the world including Italy, Finland, and Japan.

"It's a shoestring budget over here," said George. "We're making a lot of people happy for a very small budget and it's amazing!"

The Bettingers started the show as a way to have fun while bringing their family closer together. They never imagined that an old-school variety show, playing oldies music would be so successful in the new age of Internet radio.

So why does it work? George thinks it's because there's nothing else out there like it.

And it's not the first time the Bettinger's have been called "unique."
