Miramar Man Charged with Wife's Murder Given $2 Million Bond

Brian Augustus Symonette was originally held without bond on one count of premeditated murder, until a Broward County judged set the bond to $2 million.

The man charged with the murder of his wife who was found shot to death inside their Miramar home was given a $2 million bond Tuesday.

Brian Augustus Symonette was originally held without bond on one count of premeditated murder, until a Broward County judged set the bond at a Tuesday morning hearing.

Augustus Symonette cried and shook his head during the hearing, as his attorney argued that $2 million bond was unreasonable.

"The bond of $2 million is tantamount of no bond at for Mr. Symonette,” his lawyer said in bond court. “I can tell the court that the assets are worth no more than $150,000."

But despite his lawyer’s suggestion, the judge kept the bond at $2 million, adding that if it's posted, Symonette will have to wear an electronic monitor and surrender his passport.

His wife, 51-year-old Lisa Symonette, was shot to death inside their home in the 3400 block of Southwest 130th Avenue on the morning of Aug. 24, Miramar Police said.

Police spokeswoman Tania Rues said Brian Symonette had called 911 to say his wife had been injured, but at one point during the call, he said she had died.

Lisa Symonette was pronounced dead at the scene. Brian Symonette was hospitalized before he was charged, police said.

The couple's 11-year-old son, who was home at the time of the incident, has been temporarily placed with family members, Rues said.
