Miramar Man Shoots At Would-Be Burglars: Police

One suspect seriously wounded, cops search for another: Police

Miramar Police are investigating an apparent home invasion that sent one suspect to the hospital after the home owner opened fire.

The incident happened shortly before midnight Monday at a home in a gated community in the 5200 block of Southwest 149th Street, Miramar Police spokeswoman Tania Rues said.

Rues said a father was home with his wife and adult daughter when at least two suspects tried to break in. The father opened fire, shooting one suspect multiple times, police said.

The unidentified suspect who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital where he was in serious condition, Rues said. At least one other suspect fled the scene, and police aren't sure whether he was also shot.

The family wasn't harmed and police are investigating the incident.

Neighbors say they were blocked from entering the subdivision for up to an hour and a half, while police examined the scene, dusting or fingerprints on nearby fences.

"It makes me feel terrible," said Ana Rodriguez, a neighbor who was kept outside for half an hour. "I've lived here probably since 2005 and we've never had any issues like this, I've never seen something like this happen."
