More than two weeks after the Department of Homeland Security launched a massive search for a woman in South Florida, authorities say she was found in a Miami-Dade jail under an alias.

Edmarie Lafontaine-Perez, 21, was found incarcerated in the Miami-Dade Corrections facility under the alias of Tieres Rodriguez-Perez, Fort Lauderdale Police said Monday.

The Department of Homeland Security's human trafficking division has an open investigation into Lafontaine-Perez's disappearance, and had contacted Fort Lauderdale Police on Jan. 31.

Lafontaine-Perez, who was originally from Puerto Rico but had moved to South Florida last December, had been last seen at the Candlewood Motel located at 1120 West State Road 84 in Fort Lauderdale, authorities said.

Family members said the last they'd heard from Lafontaine-Perez was in a frantic phone call in which she said she feared for her life and was being chased.

Authorities spent countless hours searching for Lafontaine-Perez, only to discover she was in jail.

Jail records showed the woman, listed as Rodriguez-Perez, was booked on Jan. 27 on charges of defrauding an innkeeper, resisting an officer without violence and bribery.

Lafontaine-Perez's family has been contacted about the discovery, police said.
