New Apple gadget went on sale at 8 a.m.

Eager South Florida Apple fans lined up over night to be among the first to get their hands on the new third-generation iPad which went on sale at 8 a.m. Friday.

Customers at the Apple store on Lincoln Road in Miami Beach said they began lining up at 9:30 p.m. Thursday to snatch up one of the high-tech gadgets.

"I feel like I've been waiting here forever, I've been awake the whole time," said 13-year-old Sierra Callwood, from Pembroke Pines, the first person in line. "In my head I'm freaking out, I'm excited 'cause it's been too long."

Around 120 people were in line at the store about a half-hour before the doors opened.

The company said the new device – which will feature a super-fast Internet connection, a Retina display and a more powerful chip with “quad-core graphics” – will be sold at the same time Friday morning in its retail stores and online at apple.com.

The new model, available in black and white, has a suggested retail price of $499. The new iPad will also be available at AT&T, Best Buy, Radio Shack, Sam’s Club, Target and Walmart.
