No Bond for Man Charged in Miami Mother's Murder

The man accused of shooting and killing his ex-girlfriend in front of her two young children was in a Miami-Dade courtroom Thursday, where he was ordered held without bond.

Bertram "Nobie" Clark, 42, is facing a first-degree murder charge in the death of 25-year-old Shanquendra Williams, who was found unresponsive and lying in a pool of blood in her apartment in the 1200 block of Northwest 1st Place in Overtown on Monday.

Police said Clark, Williams' former boyfriend, pistol-whipped her before shooting her multiple times in front of her two young children.

Clark fled the scene and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He was taken into custody without incident Wednesday near Northwest 14th Place and Northwest 212th Street in Miami Gardens after detectives got a tip from a viewer watching the news, Miami Police spokeswoman Detective Keandra Simmons said.

His apprehension came just hours after Williams' family asked for the public's help in finding Clark.

Clark has a lengthy arrest record for cocaine possession, armed robbery and burglary and criminal mischief, according to court records. He was charged with first-degree murder in 1990 but acquitted by a jury in 1991. In 1994, he was convicted of third-degree murder and sentenced to serve 12 years behind bars. He was released in 2005.

The family said they and Williams' children miss her very much.

"She was a fun person, she would make you laugh," sister Marquetta Boyd said. "She was a loved person, very fun person to be with. She lived for her kids."
