Orosa Staying As Miami's Police Chief

Interim chief gets permanent position

Miami's interim police chief will be getting the job full-time.

Manuel Orosa, who has served as interim chief since September, will become chief permanently on Dec. 19, City Manager Johnny Martinez announced Thursday.

"Please join me in congratulating Manuel in his promotion to Chief of Police and continuing as a member of the City of Miami executive team," Martinez said in a statement.

Orosa is a 31-year veteran of the department who has held numerous command positions in several different divisions of the department, Martinez said.

"As commander of Criminal Investigations Section, he played a significant role in major cases including, police shootings, serial rapist, serial robberies and in the successful resolution of the murder of a police officer," Martinez said.

Martinez named Orosa interim chief after Miguel Exposito was fired in September for insubordination.

Orosa was one of five finalists for the position.
