Police Identify Body Found in Canal, Death Ruled Suicide

52-year-old Hollywood man's body found in Fort Lauderdale canal

Police have identified the man whose body was found inside a car in a a Fort Lauderdale canal last week and ruled his death a suicide.

David J. Senkowski, 52, was found Friday in his Mercedes-Benz at the bottom of a canal in the 1800 block of Southeast 15th Street, Fort Lauderdale Police said Monday.

Senkowski, of Hollywood, was last seen on Dec. 11, the same day authorities received a 911 call from his phone. Authorities were able to trace the call to the area of the canal, but found no witnesses or people in need of help.

On Dec. 13, Senkowski was reported missing, and when Fort Lauderdale Police began checking waterways near where the call was made, they found Senkowski's white Mercedes convertible submerged 13 feet below the surface.

The medical examiner later ruled his death a suicide, and gave the cause of death as drowning.
