A man is facing a DUI manslaughter charge after a pedestrian was struck and killed in Miami Thursday night, authorities said.
The incident happened at the intersection of Northwest 7th Avenue and 20th Street just after 7 p.m., Miami Fire Rescue spokesman Lt. Ignatius Carroll said.
The pedestrian, who wasn't identified, was rushed to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center where he later died, Carroll said.
Carroll said the driver of the car, Carlos Padron, stayed at the scene. He's being charged with DUI and DUI manslaughter after his blood alcohol content level was found to be at .337, more than four times the legal limit, police said Friday. A bottle of liquor was found in his car, police said.
"There was extensive tests that were done to the driver and we have a very high alcohol level," said Miami Police Spokeswoman Kenia Reyes. "So much that fire rescue was needed to respond to the scene because of the state that he was in."
Traffic homicide detectives with Miami Police are investigating the incident.
