Police have identified the cyclist who was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Sunday morning in northwest Miami-Dade.

Alejandro Hermis, 50, was riding eastbound on Northwest 151st Street when he was hit from behind by a Dodge Durango SUV near 2nd Avenue around 6:30 a.m., Miami-Dade Police said.

Witnesses said the driver dragged Hermis about 50 feet before stopping twice while attempting to maneuver and dislodge the victim from underneath the SUV.

Hermis died at the scene. The driver fled the scene at a high rate of speed, police said.
