Security Guard, 3 Others Shot at Opa-locka Apartment Building

Security guard shot in leg, three others grazed by bullets

A security guard was hospitalized and three others were grazed by bullets in a shooting at an Opa-locka apartment complex early Thursday.

The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. outside The Gardens apartments at 13180 Port Said Road, Opa-locka Police said.

According to police, two men opened fire on a car, grazing three men inside and hitting the security guard, who was inside a nearby guardhouse.

The guard, who was hit in the leg, was airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, police said.

"All of a sudden, I walked outside and I see myself bleeding," the guard, Marcquise Mclemore, told NBC 6 South Florida during a phone interview from the hospital after the shooting.

Mclemore, 26, (pictured below) said he had only been working the security job since August.

It's unknown what led to the shooting, but police said the bullets were meant for the three men in the Nissan. The men drove through a fence at one point as they tried to get away from the gunfire, police said.

Mclemore's co-worker, Pamela Grate, said she had mixed feelings as she prepared to go on guard duty Thursday.

"I'm thinking real hard on this, I really am," Grate said. "Always said it was a bad place, but you have to work somewhere."

Police said they are looking for the two gunmen, who fled the scene on foot.

Anyone with information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
