Showers and T-Storms Brought Plenty of Rain to South Florida Tuesday

The rain fell hard and fast across South Florida Tuesday.

Showers and thunderstorms brought 6 to 8 inches of rain in some locales, and there were reports of flooding from northern and western Coral Gables. A new daily record of 2.33 inches was recorded at Miami International Airport.

Some of the worst flooding was just off Bird Road and Ludlum Drive in southwest Miami-Drive. A parking lot was completely flooded at the Ludlam Point apartments, and several vehicles were stuck in deep water.

“There’s a lot of water today. Right now it’s within about – oh I’d say about two and a half feet from my front door,” neighborhood resident Debbie Santana said.

At least half a dozen vehicles were towed out of the apartment complex.

It was slow going in many South Florida neighborhoods Tuesday. But from Pompano Beach to Flagler Street, drivers were testing the waters, hoping to get through.

In southwest Miami-Dade, the water almost seeped into David Pursel's home. He said he wasn't bothered because he has a truck, though.

His street, just off the Palmetto Expressway and Bird Road, has flooded before.

“They came out years ago and they put the bigger pipes in, maybe 10 years ago,” he said.
But it doesn’t make much difference, Pursel said.
